Hipress Indications
Hipress is a generic name for the popular brands such as Tenormin and Loten. Hipress belongs to the category of drugs known as beta blockers and they are drugs that affect the heart and the circulatory system.
Hipress is indicated for the lowering of blood pressure and to lower heart rate, to reduce chest pains or angina and to prevent heart attacks.
Hipress may also be indicated for other purposes aside from the ones mentioned above.
Hipress Contraindications
Before deciding to take Hipress, inform your doctor if you have the following medical conditions:
- Any disease concerning the circulatory system;
- Asthma;
- Depression;
- Diabetes;
- Heart problems such as low heart rate, heart block, low blood pressure, sick sinus syndrome, on a pacemaker, has heart failure and other heart related problems;
- Kidney disease;
- Liver disease;
- Thyroid problems;
Hipress should also not be taken by pregnant women. Hipress belongs to the class of drugs who belong to pregnancy category D. Hipress may cause harmful effects to the baby. Among its effects are low birth weight, injuries and others. Hipress also passes into the breast milk of nursing mothers. Do not breast feed while on Hipress therapy unless otherwise directed by your doctor.
Always inform your doctor or dentist that you are taking Hipress before any surgery.
Hipress Intake Guidelines
Hipress should be taken exactly as indicated by your doctor. Never deviate from your doctor's instructions regarding our intake.
Each dose of Hipress must be taken with a full glass of water.
Hipress is not a stomach irritant therefore it can be taken with or without food.
The Hipress tablet must be swallowed whole and should not be crushed, chewed or broken.
Never abruptly cease Hipress intake. The stopping of this medication must be under a doctor's supervision.
Hipress Dosage
The effective dosage for Hipress can only be determined by your doctor. Follow your doctor's instructions regarding dosage.
Hipress Overdose
Hipress overdose is manifested by the following symptoms:
- Confusion;
- Dizziness;
- Fainting;
- Nausea and vomiting;
- Shortness of breath;
- Slow heartbeat;
- Weakness;
If any of these symptoms is present and overdose is suspected, immediately seek emergency medical attention.
Hipress Missed Dose
If you happen to miss a dose of Hipress, you can still make up for it provided that it is not yet near the time for the next scheduled dose. But if it is almost time for the next dose, it is best that you forego the dose you missed and proceed with the next one.
Hipress Side Effects
These are among the most common side effects associated with Hipress intake
- Allergic reactions characterized by difficulty in breathing, hives, closing of throat and swelling of lips, mouse, face and tongue;
- Angina and heart pains;
- Cold blue feet and hands;
- Cramping of leg muscles;
- Depression;
- Dizziness;
- Fatigue;
- Headache;
- Impotence;
- Leg pains;
- Nightmares;
- Skin rashes;
- Slow and/or irregular heartbeat;
- Sudden weight gain due to fluid retention;
- Swelling of legs and foot;
- Wheezing and/or shortness of breath;
Other side effects may also occur and if they any of these side effects become intolerable and bothersome for you, immediately consult your doctor for the proper course of action.
Hipress Interactions
The following drugs may not be fully endorsed for use together with Hipress:
- Respiratory medication such as albuterol (ventolin, proventil, volmax, others), bitolterol (tornalate), metaproterenol (alupent, metaprel), pirbuterol (maxair), terbutaline (brethaire, brethine, bricanyl), or theophylline (theo-dur, theochron, theolair, others);
- Cimetidine;
- Diabetes medication such as insulin, glyburide (micronase, glynase, diabeta), glipizide (glucotrol), chlorpropamide (diabinese), or metformin (glucophage);
- Nsaids;
- Tagamet, tagamet hb;
Other drugs may also affect Hipress. It is best that you inform your doctor of the drugs you are taking or have taken.
