Folcid Indications
Folcid is also known as vitamin B9 or folate. It is a naturally occurring substance that is important for the formation of red and white blood cells. Folcid is one of the few nutrients known to prevent neural tube birth defects. Folcid is present in foods such as dried beans, peas, lentils, oranges, whole-wheat products, liver, asparagus, beets, broccoli, brussels sprouts, and spinach.
Folcid is indicated to treat Folcid deficiency and megaloblastic anemia caused by Folcid deficiency. It can be taken either by oral or by inject process. Folcid may also be indicated for other purposes not mentioned here.
Folcid Contraindications
Do not take Folcid to treat an undiagnosed anemia. Folcid may hide the symptoms of Pernicious Anemia, leading to neurologic damage.
Folcid belongs in the FDA pregnancy category A. This implies that it is safe to take Folcid if you are pregnant. The fact is that an increased amount of Folcid is needed during pregnancy to reduce the risk of a Folic deficiency to occur. Have a discussion with your doctor if you are to take Folcid during pregnancy. Folcid is also safe to use during breast-feeding. Still, have a discussion with your doctor if you are breast-feeding a baby.
Folcid Intake Guidelines
Follow the prescription of your doctor if you are taking Folcid. You may also ask your pharmacist or nurse about things you do not understand. Take each dose with a full glass of water. Folcid is usually taken daily but still follow your doctor's prescription. Sometimes it is necessary to take Folcid by injection.

Folcid Overdose
Symptoms of Folcid overdose are not known but a Folcid overdose may likely to threaten life. Call an emergency room or poison control left for advice immediately if you suspect an overdose.
Folcid Missed Dose
Immediately take the missed dose as soon as you remember but if it is almost time for the next dose, skip the missed one and take the subsequent dose according to schedule. It is important to remember not to take a double dose of this medication.
Folcid Side Effects
Severe side effects of this product may include the following:
- Closing of throat;
- Difficulty in breathing;
- Fast or irregular breathing;
- Fast pulse;
- Fever;
- Joint pain;
- Lightheadedness or fainting;
- Swelling of lips, tongue, face, or hives;
Stop taking this product if you experience any of these side effects and immediately inform your doctor.
Less severe side effects of this product may include the following:
- Abdominal distention;
- Bitter or bad taste;
- Decrease appetite;
- Difficulty in concentrating;
- Flatulence;
- Hot sensation and redness of face;
- Hypersensitivity reactions;
- Insomnia;
- Narrowing of air passage;
- Nausea;
- Skin rash;
Other side effects may also occur other than the above mentioned. Inform your doctor if you feel anything unusual.
Folcid Interactions
Folic deficiency may occur if you take Folcid with the following drugs:
- Methotrexate;
- Pyrimethamine;
- Trimethoprim;
Some drugs can interfere with the absorption of the Folcid in the body such as the following:
- Alcohol;
- Anti-acids;
- Barbiturates;
- Cholestyramine;
- Diphenylhydantoin;
- Oral contraceptives;
- Sulfasalazine;
The following drugs may decrease the effect of Folcid:
- Alcohol;
- Analgesics;
- Anticonvulsants;
- Barbiturates;
- Cholestyramine;
- Cortisones;
- Methotrexate;
- Oral contraceptives;
- Pyrimethamine;
- Quinine;
- Sulfasalazine or other sulfa drugs;
- Trimethoprim;
- Trimterene;
Folcid decreases the effect of the following drugs:
- Pyrimethamine;
- Phenytoin;
- Anticonvulsants;
Chloramphenicol and chronic alcohol consumption can produce a Folcid deficiency. Tobacco decreases the absorption of Folcid. Other drugs not mentioned here may also react with Folcid so it is better if you inform your doctor if you are taking any prescription or over-the-counter medicines.
