Floginax Indications
The over-the-counter form of naproxen sodium, Floginax , is indicated for temporary relief of minor aches and pains, and to reduce fever.
Floginax and Naprelan are nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs indicated to relieve mild to moderate pain and menstrual cramps. They are indicated for relief of the inflammation, swelling, stiffness, and joint pain associated with rheumatoid arthritis and osteoarthritis (the most common form of arthritis), and for ankylosing spondylitis (spinal arthritis), tendinitis, bursitis, acute gout, and other conditions. Floginax may be indicated for juvenile arthritis.
Floginax Side Effects
Floginax side effects that you should report to your health care professional or doctor as soon as possible:
Floginax:
- Vision changes;
- Vertigo;
- Thirst;
- Swelling due to fluid retention;
- Sweating;
- Skin eruptions;
- Ringing in the ears;
- Red or purple spots on the skin;
- Rapid;
- Nausea;
- Light-headedness;
- Itching;
- Inflammation of the mouth;
- Indigestion;
- Heartburn;
- Hearing disturbances;
- Headache;
- Fluttery heartbeat;
- Drowsiness;
- Dizziness;
- Difficult or labored breathing;
- Diarrhea;
- Constipation;
- Bruising;
- Abdominal pain;
Naprelan shares some of the above side effects, but has some of its own:
Naprelan:
- Urinary infection;
- Sore throat;
- Sinus inflammation;
- Nasal inflammation;
- Infection;
- Flu symptoms;
- Back pain;
Floginax Dosage
Floginax: ADULTS
Rheumatoid Arthritis, Osteoarthritis, and Ankylosing Spondylitis
Your physician can adjust the doses for maximum benefit. Symptoms should improve within 2 to 4 weeks.
The starting dose is 275 mg or 550 mg 2 times a day (morning and evening).
Mild to Moderate Pain, Menstrual Cramps, Acute Tendinitis and Bursitis
You should not take more than 1,375 mg a day to start, or 1,100 mg a day thereafter.
The starting dose is 550 mg, followed by 275 mg every 6 to 8 hours or 550 mg every 12 hours.
Acute Gout
The starting dose is 825 mg, followed by 275 mg every 8 hours, until symptoms subside.
Floginax: OLDER ADULTS
Your doctor will determine the dosage based on your particular needs.
Adjustments in the normal adult dosage may be needed.
Floginax: CHILDREN
Juvenile Arthritis
Dosage should not exceed 15 mg per 2.2 pounds per day.
The usual daily dosage is a total of 10 mg per 2.2 pounds of body weight, divided into 2 doses.
The safety and effectiveness of Floginax have not been established in children under 2 years of age.
ALEVE
For those over age 65, no more than 1 tablet or caplet every 12 hours.
1 tablet or caplet every 8 to 12 hours, to a maximum of 3 per day.
Not recommended for children under 12.
NAPRELAN
Rheumatoid Arthritis, Osteoarthritis, and Ankylosing Spondylitis
Your doctor will adjust your dose.
The usual dose is two 375- or 500-mg tablets taken once a day.
You should not take more than three 500-mg tablets daily.
Acute Gout
It is not known whether Naprelan is safe for children.
The usual dose is two to three 500-mg tablets taken together on the first day, then two 500-mg tablets once daily until the attack subsides.
Pain, Menstrual Cramps, Acute Tendinitis and Bursitis
For a short time, the doctor may increase the dose to three 500-mg tablets daily.
The starting dose is two 500-mg tablets taken once a day.
